What you will visit:

Willemstad
The port of Willemstad is alive with historic treasures. One of the six UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Caribbean, it was selected in 1997 because of the city's dedication to the preservation of culture and its multicultural community that has grown over three centuries. The architecture and ambiance of Willemstad reflect influences from around the globe. Notable sights include Fort Amsterdam, a World Heritage Site strategically built in 1635 to guard the vital harbor from enemy ships; and the Queen Emma floating bridge, supported by 16 pontoons, that swings open to allow ships to access the port.

Fort Amsterdam
Strategically built in 1635 to guard the entrance to the harbor from enemy ships, the fort is one of the most important of Curaçao's eight forts and is distinguished as a World Heritage Site. Look closely and you will see a cannonball embedded in the southwest wall. This citadel was converted into the Governor's Palace and the office of the Central Government of the former Netherlands Antilles. At the rear of the courtyard is Fort Church, Curaçao's oldest Protestant church, which includes a museum.

What you will see along the way:
Begin in the district of Scharloo, once a residential community of charming homes built in the 1800s by Curaçao's wealthy merchants. In the distance, get a glimpse of the Mikve Israel Emmanuel Synagogue, the oldest synagogue in continuous use in the Western Hemisphere. In addition, you will see Queen Wilhelmina Park, the scene of many cultural festivities, and the Waterfort Arches, the site of the Willhem III Barracks and an impressive fortress.

Photo stop:
Pietermaai Cathedral
Your trolley will make a photo stop here, at this largest and most impressive cathedral on the island, and you may step inside if the doors are open. The Dutch influences in the design are notable.

Bolo di Bruit
Be sure to keep your cameras handy, as you will pass the Bolo di Bruit, known as the "wedding cake house" and the city's most photographed building.
