Crete's fascinating culture and varied heritage is showcased by its exquisite natural beauty, rolling countryside and rugged mountains Your half-day adventure furthers your understanding of this fascinating culture, home to one of the earliest civilizations in the world. Its artistry and history make this day a truly memorable one.

To get the most from your tour, wear comfortable walking shoes and bring your camera to capture the many memories. Then, settle in for a 40-minute scenic journey into the heart of Crete and the tiny mountainside community of Thrapsano, renowned for its skilled potters and ceramic craftsmen. Pottery is an ancient form of self expression that dates back more than 4,000 years. Thrapsano's artisans are said to be descendants of the potters from the Minoan era, and a visit to a potter's workshop will take you back to the traditions of yesteryear. Watch how a simple mixture of mud and water placed on a wheel can be shaped and transformed into lovely pottery and ceramic pieces. After the demonstration, the potter may ask for a volunteer to try their hands at it! Conclude your visit with some free time to shop and purchase the items on display.

Return to the motorcoach and relax on the drive back to Heraklion for a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, one of Greece's largest and most important museums. Here, you'll find artifacts from all periods of Crete's history, which spans over 5,000 years. The museum building itself is an important, award-winning, modern architectural structure. Wander through galleries that concentrate on the Neolithic period through to Roman times. The highlight is the Minoan artwork, and such masterpieces as the Phaistos Disk, Snake Goddess, Bull-Leaping and King of the Lilies frescoes can be found here. After perusing the exhibition halls and library, stop in the gift shop to pick up a memento of your visit.

On the way back to your ship, enjoy a sightseeing tour through the vibrant streets of Heraklion, Crete's capital, with its medieval city core. Pass by the 16th century Venetian-style loggias; the Platia Eleftherias, the city's largest square; and the massive fortified walls that date back to 961 A.D. as you make your way to port.
