Become a Tequila & Mezcal Connoisseur Experience
Explore the rich heritage of Mexico's most iconic agave spirits during a guided tequila and mezcal tasting experience. Arrive at the air-conditioned tasting room overlooking picturesque Stingray Beach. Here you'll engage in an interactive tequila and mezcal introduction where you'll learn how tequila is produced from the Blue Agave plant, its long history from its early origins in the 16th century, and why it has become Mexico's national drink. You'll also be introduced to mezcal, a distilled spirit made from maguey agave, known for its distinctive smoky flavor. Your instructor will then guide you through a tasting of three different tequilas and three types of mezcal, helping you assess their aromas and flavors. The tasting is paired with traditional Mexican fare and unique local snacks to enhance the flavor of the spirits.
What you will see along the way:
During the short van ride from the cruise port, you'll travel through the lively streets of Cozumel. Along the way, you may see colorful local shops, seaside restaurants, small parks, and glimpses of the turquoise Caribbean coastline as you make your way toward Stingray Beach.
Tasting:
Learn the traditions behind two of Mexico's most iconic spirits during a guided tequila and mezcal tasting. Discover how tequila is crafted from the Blue Agave plant and why it became Mexico's national drink. By law, tequila must contain at least 51% agave, while premium varieties are made from 100% agave. You'll also explore mezcal, a smoky spirit distilled from maguey agave. Your instructor will guide you through a tasting of three tequilas and three mezcals, helping you compare their aromas and flavors to discover your favorite.
Snack:
In addition to your tequila and mezcal tastings, enjoy a selection of snacks including Mexican tacos, guacamole, cheese, fruit jellies, and adventurous local delicacies such as fried crickets and maguey worms.
