WHAT YOU VISIT
Panoramic Ajaccio and Beach Break
Not only is Ajaccio known for its Napoleonic history but also its undeniable beauty. And this four-hour excursion offers both plus the chance to swim in the clear, clean turquoise waters of the Gulf of Ajaccio. First on the agenda is a stop at the Place d'Austerlitz. According to legend, Napoleon spent many hours of his childhood here when it was known as Place du Casone. This scenic hilltop park is home to a bronze statue of Napoleon and a rock grotto where young Napoleon is said to have played. From this vantage point, enjoy panoramic views over the city and the gulf. Then, you'll head to Porticcio beach resort for some R & R. You'll have time to relax on the fine white sand, swim in the crystal-clear water, or simply unwind and enjoy the scenery.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
Place d'Austerlitz is a lovely park whose focal point is a tall stairway lanked by two bronze eagles with open wings with a statue of Napoleon at the very top. Standing six meters (20 feet) tall, it was designed by sculptor Seurr after the Napoleon statue near his tomb at Les Invalides in Paris. Erected in 1938, it depicts Napoleon Bonaparte in his imperial coronation robes with the emperor's victories and achievements inscribed on the statue's pedestal.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
From the pier, your coach will travel along the Cours Napoléon, Ajaccio's main boulevard lined with elegant shops and cafés, en route to Place d'Austerlitz.
