Get ready for an exciting full day adventure exploring the dramatic geology of Gros Morne National Park with a stop for a light lunch. Board your transportation and head for this breathtaking park. The journey from Corner Brook to Gros Morne takes you through mountains older than the Rockies. Along the way enjoy dramatic coastal scenery, huge inland lakes, and green woodland interiors featuring a smattering of red and golden fall colors.

Arrive at Gros Morne and explore the north side of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Gros Morne glimpse the distant Tablelands - a landform described as more closely resembling the surface of the moon than the earth. Much of Gros Morne's fame comes from this huge extrusion of the earth's mantle thrust violently to the surface over 450 million years ago. Your guide will interpret the region and the geological significance of this park.

Stop for a light lunch at local restaurant. After that, visit the Lobster Cove Lighthouse. This historic lighthouse was built in 1892, and rests upon a cliff overlooking the water surrounding Newfoundland. Your guide will provide an overview of the first peoples of North America and the history of the local communities, including some famous local shipwrecks.

Finally, learn about Western Brook Pond. This Canadian fjord is located in Gros Morne National Park on the west coast of the island of Newfoundland. The pond rests in the Long Range Mountains, the most northern section of the Appalachian Mountains. Learn about Newfoundland's geological history and view the distant raised inland fjord that was carved by the sea and filled by the ocean 15,000 years ago.
