What you will visit:
Botanic Garden
Nestled in the scenic Avalon Canyon, the Catalina Botanic Garden is a 38-acre living museum dedicated to the unique plants and natural heritage of Santa Catalina Island. Established in 1935 as Ada Wrigley's private collection of desert plants and exotic specimens, the garden has evolved under the stewardship of the Catalina Island Conservancy into a nationally recognized center for conservation, education, and research. Today, its focus is on preserving the island's rare native and endemic plant species, many of which are found nowhere else on Earth. A stroll through beautifully landscaped pathways will introduce you to an extraordinary collection of cacti, succulents, wildflowers, and island flora while sharing fascinating insights into Catalina's diverse ecosystem, geology, and ongoing conservation efforts.
Wrigley Memorial
Rising above Avalon Canyon as the centerpiece of the Catalina Botanic Garden, the Wrigley Memorial stands as one of Santa Catalina Island's most recognizable landmarks. Completed in 1934, the memorial honors William Wrigley Jr., whose vision and dedication helped preserve much of the island's natural beauty for future generations. Constructed from locally quarried stone and adorned with the island's distinctive Catalina tile, the striking Art Deco inspired monument reflects both the island's natural resources and rich artistic heritage. From its elevated setting, take in sweeping panoramic views of Avalon Canyon, Avalon Harbor, and the sparkling waters of the San Pedro Channel stretching toward the Southern California mainland.
What you will see along the way:
Travel through the heart of Avalon, Catalina Island's charming seaside community, where colorful hillside homes, palm lined streets, and sweeping harbor views reflect more than a century of island history. Nestled along the picturesque shores of Avalon Bay, this historic resort town has long welcomed Hollywood stars, business leaders, dignitaries, and presidents, drawn by its Mediterranean atmosphere, scenic beauty, and relaxed coastal charm.
