Murcia
Located on the Mediterranean coast of eastern Spain, Murcia hosts lofty cathedrals, stately museums and imposing municipal buildings set like jewels in a gracious expanse of balconied plazas and leafy streets. Spain's seventh largest city, Murcia was founded by Abd ar-Rahman II, the emir of Cordoba, in 825 AD. Today, this cosmopolitan university town welcomes visitors with the engaging disposition born of 300 days of sun per year. The historic city core offers a plethora of delights, including the Cathedral of Murcia, built between the 14th and the 18th centuries including the Castilian Gothic style, its Cathedral Square, called the Plaza Cardenal Belluga, the 18th century Bishop's Palace, and the Town Hall with its controversial extension built in 1999 by Spanish architect Rafael Moneo. Just a stroll away, The Glorieta de Espana, which lies on the banks of the Segura River, offers a chance to soak up the pulse of local city life.
Fuensanta Monastery
The charming Monastery of the Virgin of Fuensanta, built in the traditional baroque style, welcomes visitors. Before departing, take in the panoramic views overlooking the Parque del Valle and Murcia City.
Murcia's Casino
One of the most emblematic buildings in the city, the Royal Casino of Murcia is located on Traperia Street, not far from the cathedral. Its construction started in 1847, and the building displays a mix of the main art influences that co-existed during the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
