WHAT YOU VISIT
Cartagena by Trolley
Founded in 227 B.C. by the Carthaginians, the city is a splendid mix of architecture and a trolley is an ideal way to get to see the sights and learn its history. From the pier, you'll make your way to the historic City Center where you'll be surrounded by early 20th century architecture. At its entrance stands the Town Hall, a gem of modernist architecture built entirely with white marble and topped with domes. Another noteworthy monument is the ancient ruins of the Punic Wall; almost 98 feet tall, it dates back to the 3rd century B.C. Additional sights you'll see include the 18th century arsenal, the 110-year old Plaza de Espana, and Casa Fortuna, the fascinating remains of an aristocratic Roman villa over 2,000 years old.
