What you will visit:
Lorca, Spain Town Center
You'll head to the Town Center for a guided walk featuring the city's historic core. Enter the 17th century Plaza de España and feel the pulse of the city's vibrant lifestyle. Your surroundings include the Town Hall, with its attractive façade set with arches and white marble columns; 16th century residences; the Church of San Francisco; the opulent Casino designed by the Lorca-born sculptor Manuel Martinez and more.
Old Convent of La Merced
The 15th century Castillo de Lorca commands a strategic position overlooking the city, making it the perfect place to capture indelible images of Lorca. The castle has been restored as a themed area dedicated to visitors and to the interpretation of heritage, under the name the 'Fortress of the Sun.' Exhibition spaces are located in the cisterns, the two defensive towers, and the walls.
Paso Blanco Museum
The Paso Blanco Museum, located in the old convent of Santo Domingo, presents a unique glimpse into the mystical side of Lorca. Biblical festivals and feast-day parades occur frequently throughout the year, and the museum displays a wide array of ritual items that are used in the parades: silken costumes beautifully decorated with hand embroidery and set with precious stones as well as lavish carriages and shining armor. The convent was renewed at the beginning of the 18th century and boasts an impressive barrel vault and paintings attributed to local artist Balthazar Martinez Fernandez de Espinosa. The main door dates from 1608, and parts of the 17th century cloister remain.
Fortress of the Sun
Lorca, the 'Baroque City,' has seen its share of history. From Paleolithic times through to the Roman era, the town was home to a wide range of cultures and settlers, and archaeological sites and stunning baroque buildings abound.

Shopping:
Shop for local, hand-made objets d'art at the Craftsmanship Center. A visit to the center lets you view and perhaps purchase a local work of art, hand-made in the traditional Lorcan way. Items like baskets, mats, wine holders and other crafts created by an Esparto grass weaver, such as a 'jarapa' rug, first introduced by the Moors over 400 years ago.
