What you will visit:
Old City
Acclaimed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Cartagena is famous for its cobbled lanes, leafy plazas, and well-tended Spanish colonial buildings draped with bougainvillea. The old walled town's compact historic core remains its shining centerpiece. The famous "Old City" is comprised of 12 square blocks filled with cultural attractions, boutiques and restaurants. A walking tour reveals such fascinating highlights as the 17th-century San Pedro Claver Church, Plaza Bolívar, the main town square once used for a public marketplace and to stage bullfights, the old church domes, the clock tower-a symbol of the city-and the picture-perfect ocean views.
What you will see along the way:
Inner Bay Cruise
You'll enjoy a scenic cruise through the Inner Bay for over one hour as your local guide points out fortifications best seen from the water. At the opening of the 17th century, the Spanish Crown hired prominent European military engineers to carry out the construction of its defenses. This massive undertaking took over 200 years to complete and resulted in seven miles of walls that surround the city, the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas (San Felipe Fortress), fortifications on every point and narrows, and the Fort of San Sebastián de Pastelillo.
