Board your motorcoach for the approximately 1.5-hour drive along the Riviera to Monaco, the second smallest country in the world. (Only Vatican City is smaller.) The Grimaldi family has ruled Monaco since 1297; the borders of the principality once extended from Eze to Italy.
Your guided walking tour explores the narrow, twisting lanes and covered passages of Monaco Ville - the medieval old city that is home to the Royal Palace and St. Nicholas Cathedral. Travel past the Rock - the mighty, fortified stone outcropping that guards the harbor - to the Royal Palace. The ancestral seat of the Grimaldi family for over seven centuries, the palace began life as a Genoese fortress. Enjoy free time to browse the old town's shops and galleries.
From Monaco Ville, continue to the Fontveille quarter for a tour of Prince Rainier's private collection of vintage automobiles. One hundred automobiles are on display, including such priceless vehicles as a 1903 De Dion Bouton and a 1911 Renault Torpedo as well as Ford Model Ts and As, a 1928 Hispano-Suiza and a 1935 Packard. There is also a stunning selection of classic sport cars by such fabled marques as Maserati, Lamborghini and Ferrari. In addition to the automobiles, the collection displays six historic carriages that were favorites of the prince.
