What you will visit:
Nice
Nice (pronounced "neece") is situated in a natural amphitheater on the Baie des Anges (Bay of Angels). Believed to be among the oldest human settlements in all of Europe, Nice is known for its spectacular natural beauty and mild Mediterranean climate. Its "Vieille Ville," or Old Town, is nestled at the bottom of la Colline du Chateau (Castle Hill). A stroll down the narrow streets and winding alleyways is an opportunity to discover the terracotta-infused architecture and the rich historic atmosphere of this enclave with a strong Italian influence.
What you will see along the way:
A guided walking tour is the best way to admire the historic landmarks, monuments and public areas of Nice's Old Town. In the Place Rossetti, the central square, you'll find tiny cafés serving the famous Salade Nicoise as well as the baroque-style Sainte Reparate Cathedral. The Cours Saleya Marketplace bursts with the colors of fragrant flowers and fruits of the Mediterranean. See Lascaris Palace, built in the 17th century, which now houses a musical instrument museum, the sparkling fountains in front of The Place du Palais de Justice, and Rue Saint François de Paule, where shoppers will delight in the fine arts and crafts, olive oils, milled French soaps, truffles and more.
Shopping:
Nice is not only picturesque, but is known for its unique shopping, from its popular Cours Selaya daily markets and historic architecture to boutique shopping.
