What you will visit:

Rincon Village
A driving trail through Rincon Village showcases the oldest village in Bonaire. Strategically nestled in a deep valley, Rincon was once home to the Arawak Indians before being taken by the Spanish in the 14th century as a haven from pirate invasion. Here, the slaves that were brought to Bonaire to work the fields and in the salt flats lived with their families. Delve into this cultural attraction where time has stood still with its stone and wood buildings, small farms and west coast vegetation as well as the restored old plantation house that holds a museum displaying artifacts from the era. Stop in the village to sip a taste of the island with a refreshing sample of the local cactus liqueur.

Salt Ponds and Slave Huts
The southern section of the island is flat with tropical lush mangroves and salt ponds. After learning from your guide how salt is produced today and how it was mined by slaves in the 19th century, stop at the original huts used by the slaves working in the salt pans and see the cone shaped white-salt mountains.

What you will see along the way:
After a drive through Kralendijk, you'll travel along a scenic route up the coast. You'll marvel at the stunning ocean views, huge candelabra cacti, and mesquite trees that can reach as high as 30 feet. Bonaire offers uniquely diverse sights, with the northern part of the island being hilly, arid and filled with cacti and low shrubs and the southern part flat with tropical lush mangroves along the salt ponds. To the west, you're treated to views of the small and uninhabited island called Klein Bonaire. The ocean vistas here at the west side are rough and sometimes foamy, quite a contrast to the quiet west side.

Photo opportunity:

Goto Lake
Point your camera at the natural saltwater lake, a feeding ground for the island's shy pink flamingos-possibly the most beautiful, serene spot on the island! Bonaire proudly boasts five RAMSAR sites dedicated to the preservation of wetlands and waterfowl, and Goto Lake is one of these sites.

Snack:
In a shady spot, sip a taste of the island with a refreshing sample of the local cactus liqueur, made of lime and cactus. Other drinks can be purchased at the bar.
