WHAT YOU VISIT
San Sebastian & Time on Your Own
A favorite playground since royals discovered its golden sands in 1845, your self-guided tour takes you through Old Town. While the city's walls were destroyed by British troops during the Napoleonic wars, a stroll along its narrow, cobblestone streets past the 16th century Gothic Church of San Vicente and the 460-year-old Baroque church of Santa María are vivid reminders of the city's past.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
By the turn of the 20th century, San Sebastián was known as a glamorous seaside resort for Europe's elite and its elegant Belle Èpoque architecture reflected the city's prominence. Walk along Playa de La Concha's seafront promenade to the Centro Romantic district for views of buildings with or-nate facades and wrought-iron balconies such as the extravagant Hotel María Cristina and the opulent Victoria Eugenia Theater.
