WHAT YOU VISIT
Stari Bar
Founded in the 5th century BC, it's one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic coast. Conquered by the Venetians, the Serbians, the Hungarians and the Ottoman Empire, Stari Bar is the largest and the most important medieval archaeological site in the Balkans. Covering almost five hectares (over 12 acres), it was abandoned in the late 19th century and partially destroyed by a major earthquake. Once you arrive at this impressive time capsule, you'll walk through one of the important single structures in Old Town-the main gate, which dates back to the 14th century. Nearby, you'll find two very well preserved churches: the 14th century Church of St. Katarina and the 15th century Church of St. Veneranda. Further on sits the landmark 15th century fortress with its imposing towers and defensive walls and the 17th century Turkish bath and mosque.
