WHAT YOU VISIT
Stari Bar
Founded in the 5th century BC, it's one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic coast. Conquered by the Venetians, the Serbians, the Hungarians and the Ottoman Empire, Stari Bar is the largest and the most important medieval archaeological site in the Balkans. Covering almost five hectares (over 12 acres), Stari Bar was abandoned in the late 19th century and partially destroyed by a major earthquake.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
In addition to Stari Bar's photogenic cobbled streets, medieval houses, mosques and fortresses, its natural beauty includes soaring mountains, olive groves and panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea.
SNACKS
Stunning scenery surrounds you as you walk to the Metovic estate for an olive oil tasting served with a welcome drink (a blend of brandy, water and homemade rosehip juice), bread with black and green olives, fritters, honey, and white sheep's/cow's cheese.
WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
With a knowledgeable Montenegrin guide leading the way, you'll learn more about Stari Bar's rich history and culture. During the 90-minute hike you'll view a variety of landscapes such as a natural canyon, the remains of old bridges and fortifications and the Džijarin olive grove (one of the area's largest with a total area of about 70 hectares (172 acres) and 10,000 olive roots).
