Venture into central Bali for an opportunity of a lifetime - living the life of a Balinese farmer. Be sure to bring a camera and wear light clothing, comfortable walking shoes and a hat; insect repellant and sun protection are also must-haves for a full day of hard work. After the traditional Balinese welcome ceremony your motorcoach will embark on a journey to Tunjuk Village. Your excursion through the unspoiled countryside includes lush, green landscapes of terraced rice paddies, and cacao, banana and spice plantations, views of towering banyan trees and vines of colorful hibscus.
Once you arrive, you'll meet the family you're working with, be given a broad-brimmed hat and a mattock, a tool used for loosening the soil, and stroll to the village school. Then, it's off to help with the morning chores in the sawah - the rice paddy. With Mount Agung looming in the distance, you'll walk to the emerald green terraced hillside and may be asked to fetch water, plant young rice in a paddy, help with the harvest, or spread rice husks out in the morning sun to dry. Then, you'll head to the coconut plantation for a lesson in the fine art of climbing a palm tree to harvest coconuts.
After your workday is done, you'll sit down with the family and savor a typical hearty lunch.
On your return trip to the ship you'll stop at the Taman Ayun Temple. Built in 1634 by the King of Mengwi for his family, the breathtaking Taman Ayun Temple, translated as "Garden Temple In The Water," is surrounded by a moat, which is filled with beautiful lotus flowers.
