WHAT YOU VISIT
Lagoa do Fogo & Ribeira Grande by Big Truck
Experience São Miguel Island from the seat of a 4x4 Unimog, an extreme off-road that combines high ground clearance with a low center of gravity providing riders with maximum stability even on steep terrain. First on the itinerary is the Gorreana Tea Factory. A tour of the museum provides a fascinating insight into the art of tea production and a sampling of four varieties of tea offers a refreshing end to your visit. Next, is the island's famous Lagoa do Fogo (Fire Lake), set in in the caldera of the Fogo Volcano, a dormant volcano formed about 15,000 years ago. As you look out over the stunning views, you'll see why it's acclaimed as one of the seven Portuguese Wonders. Last stop is Ribeira Grande, the island's second-largest city with a lively port atmosphere and small-town atmosphere with the distinction of being the first town colonized on the island.
