Queen's Tower Estate & Wine Tasting
Following the fall of the Ottoman Empire, King Otto, the first king of modern Greece and his wife Queen Amalia, built an impressive Neo-Gothic castle in the area of Ilion just outside Athens. Built in 1854 on 200 hectares (494 acres), a tour of the estate includes a wine tasting and a light lunch. Step inside Queen's Tower, or Pyrgos Vasilisis and behold exquisitely decorated rooms with magnificent ceiling art, elegant furnishings and a reception hall whose stunning handmade parquet floor requires guests remove their shoes.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
Be sure to capture the beauty of Queen's Tower exterior, which boasts ramparts with arched windows and doorways. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with lawns, paths, fountains, a large herb garden and trees that include pine, cypress, olive, pistachio, almond, and additional fruit trees.

LUNCH
Following a stroll through the vineyards, you'll visit the winery where you'll be treated to a sampling five estate-produced wines served with homemade spinach and feta cheese pie, "paximadi," (crisp bread) infused with orange and fennel seed, bread, a variety of Greek cheeses, prosciutto, Greek salami, cherry tomatoes and olives.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
Located approximately 60 minutes from the cruise ship terminal, the neighborhood of Ilion is a quiet, out-of-the-way setting for Queen's Tower.
