WHAT YOU VISIT
Apia by Private Vehicle - Van Class Half Day
With this excursion you make your own plans and just tell the driver where you'd like to go. You'll be picked up at the pier in an air-conditioned car that seats up to four. Before you leave be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes and you're advised to bring plenty of Samoan Tala to cover your expenses. And don't forget the camera – your outing will provide camera buffs with one jaw-dropping photo opportunity after another.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
Around every corner of Apia you'll find a treasure trove of delights worth capturing.

SHOPPING
Crafts and souvenirs to look for include siapo, a bark cloth made from the beaten bark of the u'a, or paper mulberry tree; coconut shell jewelry; a sarong known locally as a lava lava, and handwoven baskets and mats.

LUNCH
Try pork, chicken, seafood or vegetables cooked in an umu, an earth oven that uses volcanic stones heated in a fire. Another island delight is oka, a delicious dish of freshly caught raw fish cut into chunks and mixed with coconut cream, freshly squeezed lime juice, chopped onion, and tomato. And you might like a cup of kava; in fact, kava ceremonies are a fundamental part of Samoa's cultural heritage and are usually performed at important occasions such as weddings, funerals, or birthdays. Made from the bare root of a pepper tree, kava has a somewhat bitter taste and you aren't required to take a sip unless you're asked.
