Get to know Aomori's rich culture and heritage during this stirring half-day tour guided in Japanese that begins with visiting the mesmerizing Sannai-Maruyama ruins and ends with exuberantly decorated festival floats. Enjoy a scenic motorcoach drive to the fascinating Sannai-Maruyama ruins, recognized as a Special National Historical Site and one of Japan's largest and most complete Jomon villages. Explore reconstructed pit dwellings, houses and a large tower of the Jomon period from around 13,000 to 300 B.C. Then, it's off to the Nebuta Warasse Museum, a celebration of color, artistry and pageantry commemorating the city's famous 300-year-old Nebuta Matsuri festival. Step inside, where signature lanterns shaped like red goldfish hang along the hallways and the sounds of traditional music play. Marvel at five large, well-built Nebuta floats exhibited in the museum, which are replaced by new ones every year. Return to port with a deeper understanding of Aomori's honored past.
