WHAT YOU VISIT
St. John's
The administrative center of Antigua and Barbuda since the islands were first colonized by Britain in 1632, the capital city's history is on display in the 19th century pastel-colored Georgian, Victorian, and Caribbean buildings adorned with verandahs, hurricane shutters, lattice work, and fretwork.
The Antigua & Barbuda Museum
Housed in the 18th century Courthouse, the museum's displays include a look at the Arawaks and Caribs, ancient tools and artifacts, shells, various flora and fauna; and the island's naval and slavery history.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
Originally consecrated in 1683, rebuilt in 1746 and newly built in 1845, the twin towers of the Anglican Cathedral of St. John's are photo-worthy subjects. Iron gates on the south face of the church are flanked by pillars displaying lead figures of St. John the Divine and St. John the Baptist.
