WHAT YOU VISIT
Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center
Your first stop is the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC), a non-profit sanctuary dedicated to preserving Alaska's wildlife through conservation, education, research and quality animal care. AWCC takes in orphaned and injured animals and provides them spacious enclosures and quality animal care. Resident animals are encouraged to display natural wild behavior and to be ambassadors for their species. Here you will be able to observe and photograph some of Alaska's biggest land animals including moose, bison, bears and musk ox. Enjoy a guided tour with a step-on guide before having free time to explore on your own including finding locally made souvenirs at the gift store.
Potter Marsh Bird Sanctuary
Located at the southern end of the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge, the sanctuary is a photographer's paradise with chances to see rare migratory birds, spawning salmon (in season) and other wildlife surrounded by the beauty of the Chugach National Forest and Cook Inlet.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
Everywhere you point your camera, it's a postcard. At the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center you can safely get close, observe and photograph some of Alaska's biggest land mammals, including moose, bison, bears and musk ox. Go wild at Potter Marsh Bird Sanctuary. Look for eagle nests, Canada geese, Arctic terns, and occasionally trumpeter swans during spring and fall migration.
