WHAT YOU VISIT
Marken
Connected to the mainland by a causeway, Marken sits on a two-mile-long island island in Ijsselmeer Lake. Sitting in isolation since its founding in the 13th century, Marken developed an independent culture with its own architecture, dialect, and dress. When you stroll its alluring streets, you'll see some locals in traditional dress and houses clustered on little hills or built on pilings to protect them against high tides.

Volendam
Developed in the 14th century, the fishing village of Volendam just may personify the typical Dutch village complete with narrow canals, quaint drawbridges and a charming little harbor. Volendam became an artist's haven when artists such as Picasso and Renoir discovered its charms in the 1880s. Following your tour, you'll visit a local dairy farm.
