Local Connections: Dominican Coffee with Expert Connoisseur
Venture into the mountainous Dominican countryside to a rural community where coffee cultivation remains an important part of daily life. At a family-owned coffee farm, meet your local host and walk the property's coffee trails for a closer look at the journey from seedling to cup. Learn how coffee plants are grown and harvested, then see the methods used to process, roast, and brew the beans. Your visit also provides a meaningful way to support the local farming community while gaining firsthand insight into the work behind Dominican coffee. Complete the experience by enjoying a cup prepared at the source, surrounded by the mountain landscape where it all begins.
What You Will See Along the Way:
Sit back and watch Puerto Plata's scenery shift from the Atlantic coastline to the green mountains that rise behind the city. As you travel into the countryside, the urban landscape gives way to verdant hills and rural communities, offering a glimpse of the Dominican campo, where family-owned coffee and cacao farms are part of the region's community tourism traditions.
Photo Opportunities:
The lush mountain setting, coffee trails, and rows of seedlings offer plenty of photo opportunities, including a memorable shot of you joining local farmers.
Lunch:
A well-deserved lunch awaits at a nearby mountain eco-lodge, where a typical Dominican meal is served at the table. Enjoy rice and beans accompanied by a choice of proteins such as grilled chicken breast and beef fajitas, along with fried plantain, a yuca fritter, dressed salad, and a traditional coconut dessert. Fresh natural juice, bottled water, and coffee complete the meal, with a vegetarian option also available.
