Maimón Butterfly Sanctuary

Travel through the picturesque countryside aboard a Caribbean-style safari truck to Maimón, home to the only butterfly nursery on the Dominican Republic's north coast. Learn about the fascinating life cycle of butterflies while observing a variety of native species in this unique educational and beautiful sanctuary.

La Huerta

Visit La Huerta, a former sugar cane plantation once owned by the Brugal family. Walk the property's trails through fields where many of the vegetables and spices served with your meal are grown, then visit the Brugal Rum Museum to learn about the rum-making process and enjoy a tasting. Younger guests will also enjoy the animals and petting zoo.

What you will see along the way:

From lush tropical landscapes and the flowing Damajagua River to rural countryside and picturesque scenery, the journey showcases the diverse natural beauty of Puerto Plata. Along the way, watch for native vegetation, towering trees, and glimpses of everyday life that offer a different perspective on the Dominican Republic beyond its coastline.
Lunch: While at La Huerta, enjoy a typical Dominican lunch often called "La Bandera" (The Flag), prepared with many of the vegetables and spices grown on the property. The buffet features rice, beans, chicken, and pork, while children may choose chicken tenders and fries.

Shopping:
