Pompeii (on your own)
The eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D. was a monumental natural disaster that killed thousands and entombed the city of Pompeii. A visit to this UNESCO World Heritage Site is an opportunity to view a moment in time preserved for more than 2,000 years in this lost city buried deep beneath the ash. Walk among the ruins that, in exquisite detail, paint a picture of daily Roman life. Known as a vacation community for high society, Pompeii is distinctly memorialized, with some of the ruins remarkably preserved. You'll see elaborately detailed mosaics and colorful frescoes decorating the interiors of wealthy homeowners' villas. Entrance fees and headset rental are not included with this tour. Please bring local currency and/or credit cards.

Settle in for the 45-minute motorcoach ride from Salerno to Pompeii. As you journey, you'll see Mt. Vesuvius in the distance.

This is an "On Your Own" tour. This tour does not include a guide on the bus or guide inside Pompeii. Only one escort on the bus will be provided. The entrance fees and headsets for Pompeii excavations are also not included, and guests should bring local currency or credit cards. If guests should miss the return bus, transportation back to the vessel is your own responsibility and expense. Guests who prefer a more comprehensive, guided experience should book tour SL3-200 "Pompeii." Walking inside Pompeii excavations is at the guests' discretion. For security reasons, it is forbidden to enter inside Pompeii excavations with big bags, backpacks or trolleys. Please be aware that, since lockers are not available, it is recommended to leave them inside the coach. Wear comfortable walking shoes and light clothes. Bring water, head cover, sunblock.
