Alta is the perfect gateway to the wonders that live in the chilly waters of the Alta Fjord. The adventure begins with a short walk from the pier to your waiting whale watching boat. Humpbacks and orcas visit from November to February just in time to feed on migrating herring. In summer, Minke whales, orcas, pilot whales, sea lions and orcas frequently make an appearance due to the warm waters of the Gulf Stream. From the pier, you'll set out from the Alta Fjord on a comfortable boat, journeying into the heart of whale territory. As you sail, your guide will share fascinating insights into the marine life of the Arctic, as well as the ecology and behavior of these incredible animals. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Wear warm, waterproof clothing with appropriate foot wear (closed toe shoes/boots with a non-slip or rubber sole) and bring sunglasses and binoculars if you have them.
