Enjoy a full day away from your ship on this dramatic tour of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, soaking up Egypt's cultural highlights.

Accompanied by your English-speaking guide who is an expert in Egyptian history, you will first travel across the striking sand and scrub landscape to the Step Pyramid of Sakkara, which is as spectacular as it sounds.

This incredible pyramid was built for the burial of Pharaoh Djoser by the architect Imhotep, back in the 28th century. It is the oldest of Egypt's 110 pyramids and was the first to use limestone, to create the six layers. Sitting in an enormous courtyard, the pyramid is surrounded by many striking ceremonial structures, including a nearby temple, which is accessed by an imposing colonnade of 40 pillars. Your camera will be working overtime as you explore this unique sight, before climbing back on to the bus for the journey to a Cairo hotel for a buffet style lunch.

Enjoy a varied feast of chicken, pasta, salads, cold meats and pastries in the banquet room before driving to the Great Pyramids of Giza, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Here, you will be impressed by the sheer scale of these three pyramids including the largest, the Great Pyramid of Cheops, which was constructed from more than two million limestone blocks. Completed circa 2500 B.C., the blocks weigh more than two and half tons each. Nearby, you will be able to view the slightly smaller Pyramids of Chephren and Mycerinus, and if time permits, pay a small fee to walk inside the pyramids which feature narrow spaces.

Browse the colorful souvenir shop here before ending the day on another breath-taking high-note, at the Sphinx. Familiar to almost everyone, this structure was built in the shape of a lion with a human head, and is believed to be the guardian of the Pharaoh Chephren.

End the day with an enjoyable air-conditioned bus ride back to port, with your guide still on hand to discuss the many wonderful sights of the day.
