Board your air-conditioned motorcoach at the port of Alexandria and travel in convoy along the scenic road to the outskirts of Giza, approximately 3 hours away. Enjoy the unique landscape of sand and scrub, punctuated by lush, irrigated fields of produce. You'll pass small towns and farms, plus new industrial estates with residential regions.

A visit to The Great Pyramids is truly a monumental experience and their majesty overwhelms as you approach. The largest is the Great Pyramid of Cheops. It was built using 2.3 million limestone blocks, weighing 2 1/2 tons each. It has been estimated that it took 20-years and to construct it. Completed in 2500 B.C., its base covers an astonishing 13 acres. The oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one still intact, the Great Pyramid of Cheops was the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years. Your guided tour will continue with the Pyramids of Chephren (Cheops's son) and Mycerinus (Cheops's grandson), which you will note get progressively smaller in size.

Reclining just east of the Pyramid of Chephren is the famous Sphinx - with the body of a lion and the face of a human - thought to be sculpted in the likeness of Pharaoh Chephren as a guardian for his tomb. A photo opportunity allows you to study this fascinating creature. Take note of the way his face is oriented to be in the direct line of the rising sun and how traces of paint near one ear indicate that the Sphinx was once brightly painted. In between the paws of the Sphinx you will see a "stela," which is inscribed with a story. It tells the tale of Thutmosis IV, who fell asleep under a buried Sphinx and dreamt that the Sphinx promised to make him king if he would clear all the sand away. He did and the Sphinx kept its word.

The souvenir stores of Giza are brimming with wonderful mementos to take home and time permitting your tour will make a brief stop so you can shop before re-boarding your motorcoach and traveling 45 minutes to the banks of the Nile River for a cruise and lunch.

An unforgettable experience begins as soon as you board your luxurious Nile River cruise boat for lunch. Float along the longest river in Africa - the lifeblood of ancient Egypt. The Nile flows from the mountains in the south to the Mediterranean in the North and is over 4,000 miles long. Many of the historical and cultural sites of Ancient Egypt are found along the banks of this spectacular river. As you enjoy your lunch and take in the sights.

At the completion of your cruise, board your motorcoach for a relaxing three-hour and half ride back to the Port of Alexandria.
