The Great Pyramids at Giza are the only remaining Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and on this breath-taking tour you will not only be able to marvel at them from the outside, but also have the chance to explore their mystical interiors.
Your thrilling Egyptian adventure begins when you meet your driver and expert guide at the port for the scenic air-conditioned drive to Cairo. You will travel on the motorcoach through a dramatic landscape of unrelenting sand and scrub, broken only by irrigated fields of produce, small towns and villages, where you will be able to catch a glimpse of local life.
On arrival at Giza, you will immediately see the three magnificent pyramids, including the largest, the Great Pyramid of Cheops, which was made out of 2,300,000 limestone blocks, each weighing an incredible two and a half tons. Completed around 2500 B.C., the pyramid's base covers an incredible 13 acres. Nearby, you will also be able to view the Pyramids of Chephren and Mycerinus, and if time permits, explore one of their narrow interiors.
You will then enjoy a stunning photo opportunity at The Sphinx, which bears the body of a reclining lion and the face of a woman, and is thought to bear the likeness of the Pharaoh Chephren. You will also notice the steel detail between the Sphinx's paws, which was added over a thousand years later by the Pharaoh Thutmose IV.
After channeling your inner Indiana Jones, and enjoying a short stop to browse the lively souvenir shops, you will then board the motorcoach for the scenic drive to one of the leading hotels in Giza for a buffet style lunch. Dining in style in one of the hotel's banqueting rooms, you will feast on a tasty regional meal that may include chicken, salad, hummus and local pastries.
After lunch, your day out will continue with a tour around Cairo's comprehensive Egyptian Museum Of Antiquities, which houses more than 120,000 objects, including papyrus and coins. The star attraction is of course the treasures of King Tutankhamen, whose tomb was found almost intact. View the striking Gold Mask, which rested over the bandages that were wrapped around the King's face, and weighs in at a whopping 24.5 pounds of solid gold.
Your end-of-the-day drive back to port is equally relaxing, as you enjoy watching the hustle and bustle of Egyptian life from your comfortable seat.
