WHAT YOU VISIT
Whale watching in the Eyjafjordur Fjord
Akureyri is the perfect gateway to the wonders that live in the chilly waters of the Eyjafjordur. The adventure begins with a short walk from the pier to your waiting whale watching boat. Along the way, an informative guide will share his knowledge of the habits and habitats of the wildlife you may see. Humpback whales are most often sighted but minke, blue-fin, and sei whales have been spotted too, as well as white beaked dolphins and harbor porpoises.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
Have your binoculars and cameras ready--once whales have been sighted, your captain will gently maneuver the vessel to allow exceptional viewing and photo opportunities as these graceful giants show off their massive tail flukes in the air.
WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
Your captain will cruise past the charming villages that line the shore set in the shadow of towering, snow-capped mountains.
Schedule
Special Notes
Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Wear warm, waterproof clothing with appropriate footwear (closed toe shoes/boots with a non-slip or rubber sole) and bring sunglasses and binoculars if you have them. This tour does not include a coach transfer and it involves walking from the pier to the pier where the whale watching boat is docked.
Depending on walking speed, guests may assume it can take about 15-20 minutes from ship to whale watching boat. After the tour, it is easy to walk into the main town center to stroll around. Those guests with mobility issues are asked to kindly keep in mind that the what watching boat might be a little unstable and that the surfaces underfoot might be slippery. There is also some walking involved and whilst it is not far, the fact that it is uphill might prove challenging for some individuals. Also note that the boat is not exclusive, this is a scheduled departure.
