Board your motorcoach at the pier and drive through town, taking the coastal road towards Godafoss Waterfall. Travel through the fertile farmland of the Fnjoskadalur Valley en route to your first attraction.

In the year 1000 the Lawspeaker Thorgeir Thorkelsson made Christianity the official religion of Iceland. After his conversion Thorgeir threw his statues of the Norse gods into the waterfall.

Next, we´ll stop for a short refreshment break at a local restaurant.

Head to Dimmuborgir, which means "twilight castles," where you'll see weirdly-shaped lava formations that were left exposed in the bed as this former lava lake cooled and receded.

Continuing on to Namaskard, you'll witness boiling hot mud pools that roar and let out dense vapors, cloaking the hot sulfur pits at one of the most active volcanic areas on Iceland.

Afterwards, you'll re-board the motorcoach and head back to Akureyri for a brief tour of the town. If time allows, you'll pause along a scenic coastal road for a panoramic view of the town and its harbor before heading back to the ship.

Special Notes

The drive between Akureyri and Godafoss is approximately 45 minutes. The return drive from Namaskard to Akureyri is approximately 90 minutes.

The rocky areas around Godafoss Falls are slippery and wet with jagged volcanic edges; passengers should take care if leaving the designated paths to take pictures and and wear appropriate footwear. Guests should stay within marked footpaths at the Namaskard area.

Passengers should not leave the designated paths.

Small black flies (midges or "no-see-'ems") populate the Lake Myvatn area. Although they don't bite, they can be quite annoying. Wear insect repellent and bring a light scarf or net to cover your face and/or mouth. All walking is optional, and most sights can be viewed through the motorcoach windows. There are some inclines to negotiate and rough grass/mud/gravel paths.

Dress according to local weather conditions with good footwear (closed toe recommended) with a rubber or non-slip sole.

The tour operator reserves the right to run this tour in a reverse order if considered necessary, this is could be down to local traffic conditions or in order to avoid congestion at the main sites.
