Known as the "temple of eternal peace" and nestled in the wood-covered mountains along the jagged coast of western Japan, Eiheiji Temple was founded by the famous Zen priest Dogen Zenji in 1244 and has served as the education and training center for Zen Buddhism ever since. Resplendent with over 70 pavilions and surrounded by graceful trees, some more than 600 years old, the temple complex brings visitors in touch with Buddhism through its surroundings and mini lectures delivered by temple monks.
