Kick back on the sparkling Caribbean during this heart-stirring tour that commences with a leisurely, guided cruise through part of the uniquely beautiful archipelago that comprises the British Virgin Islands. After boarding an excursion boat, strike out from the marina on course to reach Tortola's breathtaking island neighbors, Salt, Peter and Norman. While cutting through the crystalline, jewel-toned waters, take in Tortola's striking profile, which takes shape against the vast blue sky.
Gliding along, you pass Salt Island, named after its salt ponds. Salt is the renowned site of the "RMS Rhone," a mailer ship that sank in 1867, creating one of the Caribbean's top snorkeling and scuba diving destinations. The wreck of the Rhone has been featured in underwater scenes from many movies including "The Deep." Continue on past Peter Island, the largest private island in the BVIs and home to one hotel, a luxurious, romantic resort accessible only by boat or helicopter. Winding bike and hiking trails cut through the island's unbridled beauty, which wows with lush, tropical flora and fauna. The gorgeous setting of Norman Island, also privately owned, includes three awe-inspiring water-level caves that are ideal for snorkeling. The supposed inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island," Norman Island's documented history features captivating tales of stashed pirates' booty and buried treasure.
Return to shore in the vibrant marina of Soper's Hole, which is situated on the west end of Tortola. As yachts and sailboats coast through the gleaming turquoise bay, discover Pusser's Landing, an enchanting seaside village featuring brightly hued West Indian-inspired architecture. Browse through the area's cheerful boutiques full of handmade mementos and chic apparel, and explore Pusser's company store, which features Pusser's Rum and stylish, logo-enhanced nautical gear.
Next, board an open-air safari bus for a scenic drive through lovely villages to reach Ridge Road, a winding passageway that ascends along mountaintops, offering mesmerizing views of Tortola, its sister islands and the glistening Caribbean and Atlantic. While absorbing the unbelievable imagery, make the most of photos stops at spectacular vantage points along the way before heading back to Road Town to return to ship.
