What you will visit:
Wildlife Cruise
Begin your adventure with a two-hour wildlife and whale-watching cruise through the island-studded waters of Sitka Sound aboard a comfortable heated vessel. Cruise among forested islets set against snow-capped mountains as you search for whales, sea lions, otters, and coastal birds. The nimble boat navigates both open channels and sheltered shallows, offering exceptional close-up viewing and a unique perspective on Sitka's rich marine ecosystems before arriving in downtown Sitka to continue your exploration ashore.
Downtown Sitka (independent exploration)
The streets of downtown Sitka are lined with colorful buildings that tell the story of the town's past, from its Tlingit origins to its days as the capital of Russian America and its transition to American rule. Intricately carved totem poles stand as quiet storytellers of a culture that has thrived here for centuries. The domes of Russian Orthodox churches rise above the town, a striking contrast against the rugged Alaskan landscape. Along the way, shops and galleries showcase the work of local artisans, offering everything from handcrafted jewelry to native art.
Fortress of the Bear
Step onto an elevated platform for an unparalleled view of Alaska coastal brown bears as they roam, play and interact in a spacious, naturalistic, yet safely enclosed habitat. This rescue and rehabilitation center provides a rare opportunity to observe these powerful creatures up close while learning about their stories of survival.
What you will see along the way:
Explore by private van along the Sitka Highway to a dramatic viewpoint and an optional forest walk. Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Tongass National Forest, Sitka, Alaska, is a haven of untamed beauty where rugged landscapes and abundant wildlife thrive. Towering spruce and hemlock trees blanket the mountains, bald eagles glide overhead, and a variety of marine life thrives in the icy waters. Volcanic Mt. Edgecumbe rises on the horizon, and amid the serenity, brown bears fish for salmon in rushing streams.
Photo Opportunity:
Picture-perfect moments abound throughout the day. Keep your camera ready for a stop at Silver Bay, a deep, dramatic fjord framed by soaring mountains, glacial waters, and pristine coastal wilderness-an unforgettable setting for capturing Sitka's wild, untamed beauty.
Snack:
While exploring downtown Sitka, enjoy a stop at a local café offering full coffee and espresso bar selections, along with bottled water, hot chocolate, soda, and iced or hot tea.
