Travel south through the crofting hamlet of Fladdabister with a dramatic view of the coastline, then stop at the Mousa viewpoint where you can look across to the ancient Broch, the best preserved in Scotland. Continue south, stopping to possibly spot some seals and reach the southern tip of the mainland – the spectacular and dramatic Sumburgh Head cliffs. Here we find the RSPB reserve, home to 21 species of seabirds totalling a million in the various colonies. Puffins return to nest each year and can often be seen at Sumburgh Head during the summer months. Your knowledgeable local guide will take you around the reserve and tell you about the site. Here you may also be lucky enough spot some dolphins, orca or minke whales.

Shetland's first lighthouse is located here, built by Robert Stevenson in 1820 and you will have access to the visitor centre here which includes a gift shop. In the centre there are exhibitions on the working of the lighthouse and the keepers that have lived here in the past along with information on the marine and birdlife.
