Your tour will start at the pier where you'll board an air-conditioned motorcoach for a 60-minute drive along the east coast of Rhodes, passing historic Mandraki Harbor where the Colossus of Rhodes-one of the seven wonders of the ancient world-once stood, and Rhodes' Medieval Old Town, as well as picturesque little villages, citrus orchards, vineyards and olive groves.
Upon arriving at Lindos Village, you'll have approximately 30 minutes at the village and 80 minutes for the Acropolis. Stroll the stores, cafes and galleries lining the streets of Lindos Village, gaze at Byzantine architecture of the ancient church and explore the medieval fortifications and remains of the governor's quarters built by the Knights of St. John. Walk up approximately 270 steps to the summit of the Acropolis of Lindos to see the magnificent remains of past civilizations. Marvel at the 4th century, B.C. Temple of Athena Lindia of Doric architecture. The view is truly panoramic. Look down from the acropolis and see picturesque St. Paul's Bay where its namesake Apostle is said to have sought shelter during a storm. You can also get a commanding view of the village's clusters of whitewashed houses and its narrow alleyways.
Lunch is next on the schedule. You'll have 80 minutes for lunch at one of the leading venues on the island. Enjoy a delicious meal and get refreshed before we re-board the motorcoach and head on to our next stop.
Approximately 40 minutes further, we'll stop at ceramic workshop where artisans produce unique pieces.
Once back on board the motorcoach, we'll drive 20 minutes to the Palace of the Grand Masters where a fortress was built that dominated the town and its harbors. Built in the early 14th century, the palace was destroyed in 1856 and rebuilt in 1939. Your visit here will take you through this dramatic structure featuring ancient mosaics from the island of Kos, as well as a monumental marble staircase that leads to the upper floor where you can take in the panoramic view of the city. An ancient road that has existed since 408 B.C. leads to the medieval town. From here, you'll begin a guided walking tour of the Old Town of Rhodes. This 30-minute guided tour of the walled medieval city takes you along pebble-paved lanes and past grand medieval structures as your guide recalls stories of the Knights of St. John. Learn about the town's fascinating past as you walk the Street of Knights, one of the oldest and most magnificent in the town.
You'll have 30-minutes of free time at the completion of the walking tour to explore on your own before we return to the pier.
