See Kanazawa's most famous sights and still have time to get back to your ship for lunch. This enticing half day tour travels to three top attractions for a thorough introduction to this historic city. First, you will visit Kenrokuen Garden, one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan.

Enjoy some time here to stretch your legs and your imagination. You'll feel like you've stepped into an enchanted world where a masterfully-designed landscape of great variety leads the eye along streams and waterfalls to rest on graceful arched bridges and Kenrokuen's iconic stone lanterns.

Created by the Maeda family who ruled from the Kanazawa Castle from the 1620s to the 1840s, this vast stroll-type garden commands the heights of central Kanazawa. It is a prime example of the 'six factors' that distinguish Japanese landscape art: spaciousness, tranquility, artifice, antiquity, water courses, and magnificent views.

Currently, Ishikawa-mon Gate, which was reconstructed in 1788, and the Hishi-yagura Turret, Gojikken-nagaya Warehouse and Hashizumemon-tsuzuki-yagura Turret, all restored in 2001, let you recapture the atmosphere of those days. Ongoing repairs and renovations keep the past alive.

For a change of pace, your tour itinerary brings you the bustling Omicho Market. Here you can soak up 270 years of history at the largest market in Kanazawa. With over 170 shops and stalls selling almost anything you can imagine, it's no wonder this busy network of covered streets was dubbed the 'Kitchen of Kanazawa'.

It is not unusual for lines to build in front of the most popular restaurants, many of which specialize in rice bowls topped with fresh seafood. And locals and tourists alike come to browse for flowers, clothing, kitchen tools and more.

Your tour of Kanazawa is filled with colorful sights and sounds to experience. And the scenic drive to and from the pier offers the opportunity to listen to informed narration relative to the city's history and cultural achievements.
