The shrine's unique architecture called Shinden, is typical of the noble houses in the late Heian Period. Connected by long corridors and cloisters, its graceful red lacquered shrine and supporting buildings span a pier that stands above the tidal flats. At high tide, the sixth century Itsukushima Shrine and its picturesque red Torii gate seem to float on the water. Tour the famed shrine and its serene grounds.
