What you will visit:
Eldred Rock Lighthouse
Enjoy close-up views from the vessel of histori Eldred Rock Lighthouse, perched on a rugged island in Alaska's dramatic Lynn Canal. Built to guide ships through once-crowded Gold Rush waters, it is Alaska's oldest original lighthouse and the state's last surviving octagonal wooden lighthouse. Automated in 1973, the station later fell into disrepair until restoration began under the care of the Eldred Rock Lighthouse Preservation Association. Learn the fascinating history of this remote beacon, the shipwreck that inspired its construction, and the ongoing efforts to preserve this important piece of Alaska's maritime heritage.Guests will enjoy exceptional photography opportunities as the vessel cruises around the lighthouse and surrounding shoreline.
Wildlife Cruise
Your 45-minute cruise begins at Port Chilkoot Dock in Haines, where you're welcomed aboard a modern, comfortable vessel for a narrated journey through Lynn Canal, North America's deepest fjord. As you travel this dramatic waterway, your captain shares local history and points out wildlife often seen in these nutrient-rich waters, including whales, porpoises, and bald eagles, set against steep coastal mountains and cascading shorelines. On the return, conditions permitting, you may pause to view a harbor seal rookery and sea lions, along with waterfalls and striking coastal cliffs. While wildlife is frequently observed, sightings are not guaranteed.
What you will see along the way:
Lynn Canal is not a canal at all but North America's deepest fjord, a vast glacial waterway of cold blue currents and towering, forested mountains. As you cruise north from Haines toward Eldred Rock Lighthouse, steep coastal cliffs and mountain slopes meet the sea, with waterfalls spilling down to the shoreline. Eagles are often seen overhead as you travel this remote, dramatic waterway.
Snack:
A local snack with water and hot beverages is served on the return cruise.
