What you will visit:
Bilbao, Spain
Modern, bright Bilbao perfectly combines the past, present and future. Founded in the 14th century, today it is a study in contrasts, blending contemporary architecture with timeless, pastel, river-bank buildings of the past. Surrounded by emerald mountains, the city's skyline is dominated by the Frank Gehry-designed Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, but a quick turn of the head also finds the Gothic cathedral that has existed since the city's founding, seamlessly juxtaposing the city's celebration of both old and new.
What you will see along the way:
Gaze upon the beauty of Bilbao, a city renowned for its art, history and dramatic architecture. From the modern wonder of the Guggenheim Museum to the charming Old Quarter, there is much to see from your motorcoach's wide windows. From the pier, drive along the estuary and through the industrial section of Bilbao for an opportunity to take in panoramic vistas from the top of Mount Artxanda. Continue through the city's main avenue, Gran Via, lined with luxury boutiques. A show-stopping attraction is the
Guggenheim Museum of Modern Art, a masterpiece by famed architect Frank O. Gehry,
Next you will drive to "Casco Viejo," the Old Quarter. Nestled on the bank of the Nervion River, it is home to such historic sites as the Gothic cathedral, Plaza Nueva, Arriaga Theater and the Bilbao Ria, a graceful river that ribbons its way through the old and new sections of the city.
