What you will visit:

4WD Seal Coast Safari
Travel along Wellington's rugged south coast, commonly known as the Seal Coast, in a 4WD vehicle. Expect to traverse rugged terrain along your route. The 4WD vehicles use bench seats. Passengers travel sideways facing each other and may not be able to extend legs fully; the ride may be rough. To get the most out of your experience, it's recommended that you bring a waterproof jacket, comfortable walking shoes and a camera to capture all the exciting moments.

Seal Colony at Tongue Point
Over 600 native fur seals (fewer during the summer months) call Tongue Point home. Your guide will share his knowledge of these heart-warming mammals as you are escorted to the best spots for photographs. The sea lions are relatively tame, and you will be able to walk through their natural habitat as they are now familiar with human interaction. But remember, don't approach too close, a fully grown male fur seal can weigh up to 700 pounds and reach 10 feet tall.

What you will see along the way:

For interesting landmarks, breathtaking views and a herd of adorable seals, nothing beats the 4WD Seal Coast Safari excursion to Wellington's rugged south coast, commonly known as the Seal Coast. Travel 12 miles out of Wellington heading through the city streets and past Parliament Buildings, then into farmland with fabulous views of Cook Strait, South Island off in the distance (weather permitting) and the Leaning Lighthouse. On your return to port, cross through farmland and the charming village of Makara.

Photo Opportunities:
When photographing wildlife, a shallow depth of field will blur the background and help you to isolate your subject. You also want to focus on your subject's eyes, if the eyes are blurry, the picture won't be compelling. In addition to photographing the seals, you can capture images of the 65-foot-tall Leaning Lighthouse from the motorcoach.

Snack:
Refresh with a cup of tea or coffee and a muffin while enjoying the vistas.

Special Notes:

The 4WD vehicles use bench seats. Passengers travel sideways facing each other and may not be able to extend legs fully; the ride may be rough.
