Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

Board your motorcoach at the pier for the scenic drive across the Rande Strait to the medieval city of Pontevedra. After arriving at Alameda Square, follow your knowledgeable guide for a walk along the cobbled streets, historic buildings, secluded squares, and bustling shopping spots.

As you wind your way through the Square you'll notice the many different architectural styles of the buildings; 18th and 19th century houses, theaters and chapels sit next to structures that date back to the 15th and 16th centuries. In fact, you'll pass the Town Hall, which was built in the 19th century, which lies opposite the medieval ruins of the convent of Santo Domingo.

Continuing on, you'll see St. Mary's Church. Built between the 14th and 16th centuries, the massive stone altarpiece not only depicts religious figures but also Spanish kings and the explorer Christopher Columbus.

Other highlights of your walking tour include the picturesque Praza do Teucro, surrounded by many fine manor houses, it's regarded as the most stately plaza in Pontevedra. Further on is Praza da Peregrina, home to a beautiful little chapel. Built in 1778, the chapel was a major pilgrimage for those on their way to Santiago. Nearby, is the Church of Saint Francisco, Lena Square and Parador de Pontevedra, a Renaissance palace formerly the home of the Counts of Maceda.

At the conclusion of your tour, you're free to shop the many stores that line Herreria Square or visit the Museum of Pontevedra, which houses a large collection of medieval art and Spanish and European paintings from the 16th to the 18th centuries.

At the appointed time, you'll board back onto your coach for the scenic ride back to your ship.
