Enjoy Victoria's well-preserved past on this tour of Victoria's highlights. Your journey begins along the waterfront through the city's picturesque Beacon Hill Park, and then into the downtown Inner Harbour area. Here you will see the iconic Empress Hotel, the BC Legislature Building, the Old Town and North America's second-oldest Chinatown.
Continue to the West Shore's Fort Rodd Hill -- a coastal artillery fort built in the late 1890s to defend Victoria and the Esquimalt Naval Base. The fort's property includes three gun batteries, underground magazines, command posts, guardhouses, and barracks.
Beneath the fort stands Fisgard Lighthouse -- the first lighthouse on Canada's west coast -- built in 1860 and still in operation. Step inside this authentic 19th-century lighthouse to learn about ships wrecked and lives saved.
Our next stop is the Royal British Columbia Museum, which is rated as Canada's #1 Museum. Founded in 1886, the museum and archives showcase the human and natural history of British Columbia and bring in exciting temporary exhibitions from around the world. Experience all of British Columbia in one visit. Three-dimensional displays offer a feast of sights, sounds and smells of British Columbia and showcase some of the 7 million artifacts and specimens in the Royal BC Museum's collections. Slide back in time to the Ice Age, see how the fur trade forever changed the lives of BC's First Peoples, climb aboard Capt. Vancouver's ship and visit with indigenous wildlife. Stay at the museum as long as you like by ending your tour to explore downtown, or re-board the coach for a pleasant drive back to the ship to complete your tour of historical landmarks.
