Description
Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.
The intrepid tourist will enjoy exploring this breath-taking town on foot and by motorcoach, including a stroll around one of the most historic and important buildings in Trondheim, the Kristiansten Fortress.
En route, you will be charmed by this amazing city, which was founded in 997A.D., and the pace of this relaxing guided walk will allow you to fully absorb its centuries-old architecture, and pretty views of the River Nidelva.
Once you have reached the fortress, that was built in 1681 to protect the city from being invaded, you will be able to view the white-washed defensive tower, and enjoy the panoramic vistas before continuing downhill to the Bakklandet district. This charming part of town has been renovated and revitalized in recent years, and now features cobblestone streets, quaint wooden houses, shops, boutiques and many cafes.
An exciting highlight of this district is the world's only bicycle lift, which ascends Brubakken Hill, and is part of the town's attempts to keep the population healthy, and traffic pollution at a low level.
Carrying on this unique scenic walk, you will then cross the old wooden City Bridge that spans the Nidelva River, as you make your way to the city's largest building, the Nidaros Cathedral. This amazing landmark dates back to the 12th century and is built on the gravesite of Norway's patron saint, Saint Olav. Still an important destination for pilgrims, the church features an incredible Baroque organ.
