Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

Your narrated tour around the 'Capital of the North' begins as you board your motorcoach for a scenic drive through the old city center, before driving over the Tromso Bridge, the first cantilever bridge to be built in Norway.

Nestled between the snow-flecked mountains of the Lyngen Alps and the crystal-clear waters of the Norwegian Sea, Tromsø is the capital of Norway's high north and is located about 217 miles above the Arctic Circle.

After crossing the bridge, you'll visit the Arctic Cathedral - a symbol of Norwegian culture and faith. An innovative design of glass, steel and concrete resembling a giant glacier resting at the base of the mountains, the Cathedral boasts one of the largest stain glass windows in Europe. Each evening during the summer months, the Cathedral holds a concert to welcome the return of the Midnight Sun.

Next, you'll visit Polaria, an activity center and aquarium housed in a very distinctive building that represents ice floes that have been pressed up on land by the rough seas of the Arctic. After watching short films that showcase the splendors and harshness of northern Norway, you will get acquainted with the glacier decline in Greenland by visiting the exhibition 'Priceless'. The aquarium greets you at the end of the walkway where the main attraction is the bearded seals. Be sure to make a stop at the Polaria gift shop for local crafts, seal products, books, toys, and other souvenirs.

Your next destination before returning to the pier is a journey to the Tromsø Museum. Over 130 years old, and the largest museum inside the Arctic Circle, the museum offers exhibits as varied as Viking jewelry, fine medieval church art, a full-scale dinosaur and displays that examine the nature, history and people of Northern Norway.
