What you will visit

Sensoji Temple (Asakusa Kannon Temple)
Completed in 645, the colorful Sensoji Temple is Tokyo's oldest temple. Legend tells that in the year 628, two brothers fished a statue of Kannon out of the Sumida River, then they made the temple to enshrine the statue. Consequently, Sensoji was built there for the goddess of Kannon. Enter through the "demon gates" bedecked with a huge red paper lantern and erected to protect this historic shrine. A shopping district called Nakamise extends from the temple's outer gate.

Skytree and Solamachi
Skytree is a broadcast tower for television and radio. The world's tallest tower at 634 meters (2,080 feet), its modern design utilizes elements of traditional Japanese architecture from shrines and temples and symbolically is designed in the image of a big tree stretching up to sky. At the foot of the Skytree lies Tokyo Solamachi, a shopping and entertainment complex that has an aquarium and a planetarium as well as an abundance of retail and dining options.

Imperial Palace Plaza
Also known as "Kokyo," the Imperial Palace is a lovely park area that belongs to the emperor of Japan and his family. The palace occupies the original site of Edo Castle, the seat of power for the Tokugawa shoguns during the Edo Period (1603-1867). Restoration to repair damage suffered by the palace during World War II was completed in 1968. The plaza's exterior walls encircle lush, manicured grounds reflected in the moats and koi ponds.
