WHAT YOU VISIT
Waitomo Glow-Worm Cave
A walk in the cave reveals a world of soaring ceilings, low passages, and stunning, delicate cave formations that include the famous Organ and the lofty chamber called the Cathedral. Then, board a boat for a ride in complete silence along an underground river in pitch darkness and behold millions of bioluminescent glow-worms as they radiate their unmistakable luminescent light in a subterranean world. Because the worms extinguish their lights when disturbed, silence is mandatory.

Otorohanga Kiwi House
Since 1971, Kiwi House has served as a sanctuary for New Zealand's unique native birds and is a specially constructed observatory that simulates the nocturnal bush habitat of the kiwi. In addition to five different kiwi species, the park is also home to reptiles like the green gecko and the tuatara.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
Get your camera ready for a galaxy of glowworm lights, impressive limestone walls and magnificent stalactites and stalagmites. Unique to New Zealand, the srachnocompa luminosa glowworm radiates a fluorescent blue-green glow that illuminates the caves leaving you spellbound.

LUNCH
Following your exciting introduction to the enchanting kiwi, you'll head to the Crosshills Gardens for lunch. The menu includes two seasonal meats, fresh breads, homemade pickles and spreads, seasonal vegetables and salads, and a dessert of seasonal fruits and ice cream, served with your choice of water, tea, coffee, or glass of wine.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
En route to Waitomo Glow-Worm Caves, you'll travel through the Bombay Hills following the Waikato River into the rural countryside. The hallmark of the Waikato Region is lush green fields populated by grazing sheep.

Special Notes:

Travel time to Waitomo is approximately two hours each way. Parts of the caves at Waitomo are small and narrow; not suitable for guests who are claustrophobic. There are approximately 200 steps located intermittently throughout the cave. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with back problems.
