Celebrate the artistic and cultural highlights of Tetouan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your 5.5-hour adventure begins with a scenic 35-mile motorcoach ride to the city, a safe haven for refugees from Andalusia after the fall of Arabian rule in Spain. Upon arrival, visit the outside of the Royal Palace of Tetouan, taking in its wide esplanade, Arab-Islamic architecture and ornate gate, and begin your guided pedestrian tour of the ancient old town (medina). Stroll the labyrinth of tiny streets past the lively souks (markets) and Spanish-Moorish architecture to the Museum Dar Sanaa to admire traditional embroidery, woodwork and textiles. The museum is also a school, where apprentices are taught how to craft these artistic pieces using traditional techniques. Pause for pastries and refreshing mint tea in a local riad in the heart of the old Medina. Return to the motorcoach and relax on the ride back to port after this lovely day.
